The
school board of management is responsible for the day-to-day running of the school.
The Head Teacher, Daniel Otieno, has also obtained a diploma from, the African
Institute of Sathya Sai Education in Ndola, Zambia.
Daniel
recently successfully completed his
first semester of classes for the Master's degree program
in School Administration. After completing two more
semesters and a research thesis, Daniel plans to apply the knowledge gained
for the benefit of the school, the children, and staff at the Uthiru school.
The school has nine qualified teachers with experience in value-based education.
It is a requirement that all teachers attend Human values training at the African
Institute of Sathya Sai Education (TAISSE), Nairobi Campus.
Most
teachers voluntarily spend a generous amount of their personal salary buying clothing
and other items for their pupils. The teaching staff also regularly participates
in service to the larger community. As participants in SAINET, foodstuffs and
mosquito treated nets were distributed to several villages near the coastal town
of Malindi and three teachers accompanied the head teacher to a similar service
project in Bondo.
In the fall of 2005, the Uthiru
staff also helped to lead a two-day human values workshop for 33 teachers in a
private school in the coastal town of Mombassa
Subject to the availability
of funds, it is proposed to construct two small apartments for the Head Teacher
and the Deputy and also an arts/computer classroom.
Teacher
sponsorship is also possible at US$ 2400 per year. By sponsoring a teacher to
teach at the School, a large number of children are directly sponsored.
Opportunities
to for teachers to further their education also provide immediate benefits to
the school and its children.
